Just a reminder I do not own Torchwood, or Doctor some &%^@( jerk .... Well, just to let you know I make no money and only intend this for entertainment.
This story takes place shortly after Meat. I liked the episode but it left a few question for me at the end.
The feedback and comments have been great and feed the muse. Hope you enjoy it.
They went in through the kitchen, and Ianto’s mouth started to water at the smells. “What is that? Oh my God, it smells fantastic.” Ianto’s rumbling stomach echoed the sentiment.
Cook gave him a big grin. “That my child, is my best breakfast, pancakes with mixed fresh berries. There’s bacon and biscuits done baking.”
“But Wooster brought us something earlier. It’s in the other room.”
“Oh that stuff is stone cold now. I’m making you fresh. You boys have been up most of the night. A good breakfast then you can go back to bed.”
Ianto was sure she winked as she put the hot bread down on the small dining table.
“That sounds like a great idea,” Jack said, giving Ianto’s hand a squeeze.
“Good, now you two sit down at that table and I’ll get you some strong Milterian tea”
“Coffee would be so much better,” Ianto complained.
“Soon,” Jack said pulling out the chair for Ianto. Once he settled in his chair, Jack pulled over a seat and sat right next to him. He could feel the warmth of the other man seeping through his jeans. Damn, Jack still smelled so good. “Think how wonderful it will taste after you’ve been denied it for a while.”
Ianto didn’t think Jack was talking completely about coffee anymore when the older man reached under the table and took his hand in his.
“Is this all right?” Jack asked.
“Feeding me breakfast?”
“Holding your hand. I know you were never one for public displays of affection.”
“I didn’t think you liked them. Thought you were worried it would give the wrong impression. Make me or worse others think we were a couple.”
“See more proof that he’s an asshole. I would hold your hand anywhere and anytime you’d let me.”
“It was just as well, we didn’t need to draw any more attention to ourselves than we already did as Torchwood. We didn’t have many fans around Cardiff or in the government.”
“Oh, Ianto, you really have no idea,” Jack mumbled.
Ianto had a feeling he wasn’t supposed to hear that.
“The looks I got just walking beside you, there was a lot of envy but most of it was disbelief that you would have anything to do with me.”
“I saw those looks but they weren’t for me. They couldn’t figure out what you were doing with this ass dressed up like an extra from The Battle of Britain.”
“Enough of that you two,” Cook said, carrying over two large plates of steaming pancakes. “You both are way too pretty, now eat.”
“Smells great,” Jack said, grabbing for his knife and fork.
“Well, don’t that beat all. Don’t think I’ve ever seen you so keen for my food before Captain.”
“Must be the company I’m keeping.”
“Well, if I didn’t like you already cause you’re so polite and liked my cooking, I’d love you for the smile you’ve put on the Captain’s face. I’m going to retire for a little while to recharge. Wooster’s doing the same. You just leave those dishes when you’re done, I’ll get to them in a little while.”
“You did quite the job on that one,” Ianto said once Cook had left them.
“Oh I know. I sort of lucked out with her. She was the first servant I ever made. Most of the time you just get them prefab but I needed something to occupy myself while I waited for the terraforming to finish. So I built a companion. At first I thought about making her familiar sort of like someone I knew but then I decided that I wanted to get to know someone new so I pushed some buttons and got her.”
“Too bad you don’t take advantage of having a cook. You’ve lost a fair bit of weight since I saw you yesterday.”
“Just too much to do to get this place ready and food never seemed to be that important.”
“You haven’t starved yourself to death have you, Jack?”
“What? No, just not interested in it. Cook would bully me into eating and I would eat a bit but just enough to keep going.”
“Sounds like depression.”
“Well only I could be depressed for a thousand years.”
“I talked a bit to Wooster, he told me about your aversion to the use of sir.”
Jack put down his fork and reached for Ianto’s hand again. “That was private between us. I know it didn’t start that way but whenever you would say it I knew you were saying that you cared about me.”
“I did, do care about you, both of you and that’s going to be the problem, isn’t it?”
“What do you mean?”
Ianto rolled his eyes. “Don’t be daft, Jack, it’s not a good look for you. You don’t think I recognize a seduction routine when I see one?”
“Caught on to that, did you?”
“Yeah, just a bit.”
“Is it working?”
“Yeah, it is and that’s just making me feel even worse.”
“Because I’d be cheating on the person I love. You might not have trouble with it but I do.”
“I told you before that I was always faithful,” Jack said rising to his feet. “I’ll leave you to finish your breakfast.”
“Running away from me isn’t the way to fix this and you know it, Jack?”
“Why do you have such trouble believing me?” Jack asked sitting back down at the table.
“It’s not that I don’t believe you.”
“It sure sounds that way to me.”
“Okay, maybe it does but I’m sorry you’re asking me to change a lot of my thinking about you. You have to admit that you’ve had a colourful past; one you never had any trouble sharing with me or anyone else on the team.”
“You’re right, but telling stories is one thing, fucking someone else is another. I had a reputation to maintain one I was happy to keep adding to but that was before I met a certain Welshman of extraordinary character. After I met you Ianto, you kept me on my toes. You weren’t so easily charmed. You made me work for every smile I got. I know it was a game, a way to keep me from finding out about Lisa.”
“It might have started out that way but it changed quickly for me but I also knew that falling for you was playing with fire. I guess I’m still worried I’ll get burned. I know you’ve done all this for me but Jack, I was worried you’d get bored with me back in the 21st century, how can I compete with the 51st?”
“Oh, Ianto, you have always been enough for me, and you always will be,” Jack reached over and brought Ianto closer. Jack caressed the side of Ianto’s face with the tip of his finger. “There is no one else in this universe I would have ever gone to this much trouble for but you, not Gwen, not the Doctor. What can I say to make you believe me?”
Ianto leaned over so that he and Jack’s foreheads were touching. “Nothing, not one word more. I believe you, but you might have to keep working on convincing me.”
“How do we do that?”
“Like this.” Ianto reached around and brought Jack’s mouth to his. He licked against Jack’s lips, and was welcomed with a tongue slipping against his. Jack tasted the same as he remembered, sweet and spicy all at once.
“Oh Ianto,” Jack said with a smile “You can still surprise the hell out of me.”
“Yeah?” Ianto asked with a shy smile.
“Oh yeah. Look, I’m not going to lie to you, I would like nothing more than to take you upstairs strip you naked and make love to you until we both pass out but I can understand your feelings about Harkness. I admire your loyalty, I just wished he and I truly deserve it.”
Ianto wasn’t sure what to say. He had to admit he was more than a little tempted to take Jack up on his offer. Would it really be cheating if he slept with this Jack? It could be a long time before he saw his old Jack and this one was damn charming. He wasn’t feeling any pressure to take Jack up in his offer. In fact, he believed this Jack meant every word he said. But he couldn’t help wondering what it would be like to make love to Jack and not have to hold back his true feelings, not worrying about words of love slipping out.
“How about we finish eating, and we can talk more, or just have a nap. You still aren’t completely recovered from your trip. It takes a few days for a novice time traveller,” Jack said, picking up his fork and digging into the great breakfast.
“Only if you join me?” Ianto asked, his hand rest high on Jack’s thigh.
“Are you saying what I think you are?”
“Yeah, so eat up, you’re going to need to keep your strength up.”
